about us

What makes the vocal studio different from all of the other studios in our area is that all of our teachers are NYS certified music teachers. Combined, we have almost 100 years of experience with all ages of students. Our goal is to make our students independent music readers. We do not just teach songs which you can do on your own, we teach you how to read music. You will not read about any of our staff members being on Broadway - but what you WILL see are seasoned veterans teachers of the Arts that accept ALL CHILDREN regardless of their disability.

There is no singing without acting. If you are just standing in one spot while you are singing, then we've got some work to do! When you sing, you are telling a story, so expect to have your songs choreographed while you learn them. It's hard work!

When we take our students to the city to work with Broadway directors and cast members, we are still shocked to find out that many Broadway cast members have to hire a music director to teach them their music! We want all of our students to be independent by the time they are in tenth or eleventh grade. And if you look at our pictures, you will see us with the cast of Be More Chill on Broadway. We visit NYC about four to five times a year to study with Broadway casts and staff at the Metropolitan Opera House. We are about education - that is what we do! We have some great people on our staff, especially our sound engineer. We work with a state of the art sound system and lights - everyone wears a lavalier, because there is nothing worse than not being heard. Need to change the key is a song? Done! Need to take out an instrumental solo? Done. It is always about making the student sound the best that they can - as long as they put in the work at home.

In addition to being a music supervisor for 20 years and a High School Principal, Ms. DelSignore is also a NYSSMA ALL STATE Adjudicator. We have know the rules for all of the offerings within NYSSMA.

The most important part of your lesson and/or rehearsal is the time BETWEEN them. The work you do at home is a direct correlation as to how far you will progress. We are really serious about making you the best you can be!

What We Offer

The Capital District really has many theater opportunities for students. Just about every week you will see advertisements for community musical theater auditions posted.

But we stand apart from all of the other theater opportunities. First, our primary concern is safety. All of our staff who work directly with the cast are New York State certified music, dance or theater teachers. That means that everyone has had a background check and has been fingerprinted. We think this is really important. You won't ever see random people in our studio that don't have credentials or have had a thorough background check.

Next, we love what we do. We put in many more hours than other organizations do. Every member has tailored costumes, wears a body mic, and is given opportunities for solos or spotlights when appropriate. We have a professional program that includes a head shot and bio on each cast member. Before you see our performance, you know you will be watching a quality performance by our Playbill.

We don't boast that we will create the next Broadway star. Don't get us wrong; if any of our students wound up on a Broadway stage we'd be right there in the first row cheering them on. What we are proud of is the confidence and work ethic that our students learn from being in our performances. We want this to carry on in their school work and life. We produce great performers who are considerate, loyal, caring and accepting toward everyone they meet. They don't settle for being "cute" on stage; they push themselves until they give their best performance possible. We welcome students with disabilities that are ready for the stage. Everyone has to start somewhere and we would love for it to be with us!

We also have a great time! We have dinners together, celebrate individual victories and support each other through difficult times. We have an outstanding parent support group that will welcome you to the group as if you have been here with us from the beginning. Our goal is the same for all of us - we want the best for our kids.

Last but not least, we have music theory classes as a regular part of our rehearsals. This includes sight singing. We want them to be independent musicians as soon as possible!

Reviews

Fran is by far the best vocal teacher out there. She truly cares about each child, teaches them and guides them in a positive manor. She surrounds the atmosphere with positive energy.

Very patient. They work really hard and enjoy every minute. My 7 year old daughter Gianna is on her 3rd musical and she’s already looking for the 4th! There’s truly nothing like the looks on their faces opening night! Give it a chance, you won’t be sorry...

From a Mom with a child with social anxiety - “This program has been a life saver for us. Ms. DelSignore has taken my daughter from being in a very lonely place at school to now one that is filled with friends. Her school work has improved incredibly, she participates in classes, can talk to her friends and teachers now and I just get so emotional thinking about what this program has done for her. Many other community theaters have not even given our daughter a second thought, but this program sees the potential in EVERY child” Name withheld
